About Keyward
Independent, honesty-first guidance on software crypto wallets and self-custody.
Keyward is an independent guide to software crypto wallets — the phone apps and browser extensions people use to hold crypto in self-custody. We exist to answer one question honestly: how do you hold crypto yourself without losing it to a mistake or a scam?
What we cover
We focus on software (hot) wallets: how custody works, how to protect your seed phrase, how the common scams operate, and how to choose a wallet for your coins. When the right answer is to move to a hardware wallet, we say so and hand you off — cold storage is a companion topic we link to rather than pretend to be neutral about.
You can start with the best crypto wallets ranked on security and custody or read hot wallet vs cold wallet.
What we don't do
We do not predict prices, tell you what to buy, or promise returns. We do not cover presale tokens, 'connect wallet to claim' schemes, meme coins, or anything gambling-adjacent. A wallet is a tool for holding crypto; whether you should hold crypto at all is your decision, and nothing here is financial, tax or legal advice.
Our honesty policy
Every fact we publish carries a date, and where we cannot verify something we say so rather than guess. We rank wallets on merit, not on who pays us — and we publish a 'Pays us?' column on our main guide so our incentives are visible. The wallets we recommend most pay us nothing.
How we're funded
Keyward is reader-supported through a small number of disclosed affiliate links (hardware wallets, two software wallets with programs, and a regulated exchange). We earn only if you choose to use them, and it never changes what we recommend. See our affiliate disclosure for the full list.
